Southern Energy was founded in the 1940s in Shelbyville, TN, and operated as a Gulf Oil Corporation consignee for many years. This means Gulf Oil owned everything and paid to have their fuel delivered. Southern Energy became a wholesaler in the late 1970s, and eventually in the late '80s the company began to operate convenience stores, which operate by the name Serv-N-Go Markets.
